Nail Biting Help – EFT Emotional Freedom Technique

Nail biting is typically a nervous or stress reducing habit. Many adults who bite their nails are embarrassed about it and would like to stop. Fingernail biting is a way for people to distract themselves from their negative feelings.

EFT ( ) or Mind Body Tapping is an emotional version of acupuncture without the needles. EFT is a wonderful tool that allows you to face and release your negative feelings. Tapping on certain meridian points on our body balances the natural energies in our bodies. EFT is gentle, versatile, simple to learn, easy to use, and has such amazing results.

Here are the EFT basic steps to stop nail biting:
1. Write down all doubts, triggers, emotions, obstacles, and concerns you have about stopping your nail biting? (I doubt that I can quit biting my nails or if I stop biting my nails it will be too stressful)

2. Evaluate the intensity level of each issue or emotion on a 1 to 10 scale (10 being the most). (Doubt – 8, Stress – 7)

3. Set up the affirmation and reminder phrase starting with the most intense issue first.

Affirmation – Even though I doubt I can stop biting my nails, I accept myself, or Even though I want to stop my nail biting, it will be too stressful, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway.
Reminder phrase – Doubt I can stop biting my nails, and it’s too stressful to stop biting my nails.

4. Begin tapping lightly on the following meridian points on one side of your body using your index finger and middle finger with either hand, as you speak the phrases out loud.

· Karate Chop – “Even though I doubt I can stop biting my nails, I deeply and completely accept myself.” (Repeat 3 times).

· Eye Brow (Beginning of your eye brow near the top of your nose) – “My doubts about stopping nail biting”

· Side of the eye – “I doubt I can stop biting my nails”

· Below the eye – “Part of me doubts I can stop biting my nails”

· Under the nose – “Doubt I can stop my nail biting”

· Middle of the chin – “All the other things I have tried did not work”

· Under the collarbone – “I really just doubt I can stop biting my nails”

· Under the armpit – “My doubts about my nail biting habit”

· Top of the head – “I doubt my mental toughness, nothing has worked before”

5. Take a deep breath.

6. Re-evaluate the intensity level of the issue using the 1 to 10 scale.

7. Tap a second round if needed (Continue tapping as many rounds as you need to reduce the intensity level of the issue below a 3).

8. Move onto the next emotion or issue starting with the Evaluation #2.

9. Continue tapping three times each day on all your issues until you stop biting your nails.

10. Use EFT with other mind body techniques (hypnosis or visualization).
